My New Book Is Here!

Even when so much is awful, wonders in our own lives still have a way of blooming like wildflowers, and it’s ever more essential to share them. When I hear about your bumper crop of blueberries, benign biopsy, reconnection with an old friend, new puppy, or whatever enlivens your life it enlarges my joy too.

So here’s my good news. My fourth poetry collection, Universe Marveled Into A Jar, just came out. I can’t believe how lucky I am!

Here’s the book description:

These pages hold praise songs to wonderments diverse as moss, mistakes, memory, even an imaginary donkey. Laura’s poems are wild and tender explorations into many realms of our universe’s marvels.

It is dedicated to women I love with acknowledgements not only to journals and anthologies that published my work but also to my beloved poetry writing group, the 811s, who were instrumental in shaping these poems.

I am fortunate to have this book published by Sheila-Na-Gig, a nonprofit arts organization/poetry journal/small press founded and run by the indefatigable visionary Hayley Mitchell Haugen (who is also an amazing poet). Each step of the process from raw manuscript to finished book has been a testament to Hayley’s patient expertise. She even allowed me to skip the usual back cover blurbs. Instead it features kind words fellow writers have already posted about my poems—with vast gratitude to Kim Langley, C.A. Gunn, Elizabeth H.S. Beasley, and Iesha Jackson.

    PS I have launched a substack called Gratitude,Grace and the Grail looking at the archtypes of the Grail Legend through stories in my life while relating this to the greater communal stories of justice and hope in our times.

  13. The Importance of being Laura Grace Weldon.

    Everything I read that you have written strongly brings me down to earth if I am not already there. Maybe there is not enough life in my life or not enough people and conversations in my life, probably the latter, but I am often brought to a tear or two. And, a sadness, for this world and the poor decisions and acts and loss of care. And uplift, to be reminded that there is Laura Grace Weldon and others, who do stop to look, not to take, not to scheme, not to destroy.

    I look forward to your book, Laura, it will be an e book for me in Aus.

  15. Dear Laura, I have been checking your website daily awaiting the big news. Congratulations! I look forward to picking up a copy at my local independent book store. I, like so many others are so hungry for good news. Your new book announcement made me think of the words of Albert Camus:

    “In the midst of winter, I found there was, within me, an invincible summer.

    And that makes me happy. For it says that no matter how hard the world pushes against me, within me, there’s something stronger – something better, pushing right back.”

  16. Your book arrived Laura Grace and I love the cozy down-home feel to your writing which is not to negate the depth of insight. Also, appreciate the range of topics from Any Day Now where the speaker welcomes a child into life with “soon you will reach landfall on a planet new to you” and then a few pages later introduces “supernovas exploding in our glactic neighborhood.” This is a book I can easily recommend to friends who are leery of poetic esotericism.
